An event was created to gather photographers in Bulgaria, on the Black Sea coast. It became an occasion for communication and creative freedom, away from the strict control of the authorities. Fotovacantsiya became a beloved and much anticipated event for all those involved in photography. With the changes in 1989 the event was discontinued, leaving a serious gap in the photographic life in Bulgaria.
In 1995, with the help of Kodak, Yuri Treiman managed to revive Photovacancy and bring it back to its past glory. For 28 years now, every September the event has brought together people sharing a passion for photography on the shores of the Black Sea. Over the years, the event has experienced its ups and downs with the times.
